Expanded Codeshare and New Routes Announced

Qatar Airways and Kenya Airways have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a strategic partnership. This agreement includes a comprehensive codeshare arrangement and more flights between Kenya and Qatar Airways’ Doha hub at Hamad International Airport.

The MoU was signed in Doha by Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, and Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Allan Kilavuka.

New Routes and Seamless Connections

As part of the deal, Qatar Airways will introduce a third daily flight between Doha and Nairobi under a codeshare with Kenya Airways. Bookings for these flights will open soon. The airlines will also launch a Kenya Airways-operated, Qatar Airways-marketed service between Mombasa and Doha during the upcoming winter season.

These new routes will offer passengers more travel options and smoother connections across both airlines’ networks.

Beyond the Skies: Deeper Operational Cooperation

The partnership aims to go beyond passenger services. Both airlines plan to work together on cargo operations, ground handling, airport services, product innovation, loyalty programmes, procurement, and aircraft maintenance.

Executive Insights on the Agreement

Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said:
“This partnership reflects our continued commitment to Africa. As we mark 20 years of flying to Kenya, this agreement adds to our growing list of strategic collaborations across the continent. Through initiatives like our investment in Airlink, we are committed to supporting Africa’s aviation and economic growth.”

Kenya Airways CEO, Allan Kilavuka, added:
“This partnership supports our turnaround strategy, which led to our return to profitability earlier this year. It will also help Kenya expand its tourism and cargo sectors, which are key to our regional economic development.”

Global Recognition and Growing Networks

Kenya Airways has been named Africa’s Leading Airline and Leading Business Class by the World Travel Awards for four consecutive years.

Qatar Airways, voted the World’s Best Airline by Skytrax in 2025, currently operates over 170 weekly flights to 30 African cities. It has also improved connections to destinations like Brussels, Guangzhou, London, New York, and Washington through its Doha hub.
