President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate dissolution of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana, along with the closure of its Secretariat, after what the government describes as “damning audit findings.”

Secretariat formally closed since May

The announcement was made by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during a press briefing on Friday, 18 July.

According to him, the National Cathedral Secretariat, which had been operating from the Jubilee House, was officially shut down on 1 May 2025.

“The above audit findings shake the very foundation of the project and the operations of the Secretariat, and raise serious concerns about the use of public funds,” Kwakye Ofosu stated.

He further noted that legal steps would be taken to ensure the full dissolution of the project, which had been registered as a company limited by guarantee.

“The National Cathedral Ghana was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee. Given this, the Attorney General has been instructed to initiate legal proceedings… and we anticipate that this will be carried out in the coming days,” he added.
