A “terrorist attack” killed a police commander on Saturday in Bandar-e Lengeh, a coastal city in Iran’s southern province of Hormozgan, local media reported.

Tasnim news agency said the commander “was targeted” in the deadly attack.

“The attacker was also killed,” Tasnim said.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, a rarity in the province located about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) south of Tehran.

In October, 10 police officers were killed in southeastern Iran in a “terrorist attack” in an area of southeastern Iran, Sistan-Baluchistan province, long plagued by unrest.

The Pakistan-based Sunni jihadist group Jaish al-Adl (Arabic for Army of Justice) claimed that attack.
