PGK Equator Tour Tees Off at Ruiru Sports Club

The Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour officially began today at Ruiru Sports Club. Over 50 professional golfers from across the country will compete in the tournament, which spans eight months and 12 courses. The tour will end with a grand finale at Muthaiga Sports Club from February 5–8, 2026.

The Equator Tour is part of PGK’s Player Development Plan (PDP), aimed at building discipline, exposure, and competitive skills among rising golf professionals in Kenya.

Safaricom’s Holistic Support for Golfers

Safaricom is backing the initiative with a KES 3 million sponsorship. The company is supporting four golfers Mutahi Kibugu (Nyeri), Mohit Mediratta (Sigona), Samuel Njoroge (Railways), and Matthew Wahome (Nyali)—who were selected through a draw.

The four will represent Safaricom’s Corporate Team during the Equator Tour and other PGK events this season. In addition to financial support, Safaricom is providing golf kits, airtime, mobile devices, and cash incentives for top performers.

The support extends off the course as well. The players will access financial literacy training, mental coaching, gym sessions, and monthly performance analysis using golf simulators.

“At Safaricom, we believe in creating opportunities for young Kenyans to grow both on and off the field,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa. “We’re proud to invest in the future of Kenyan golf through this partnership with PGK.”

A New Era for Kenyan Golf

The PGK Equator Tour represents more than a tournament it signals a new chapter for Kenyan golf, one rooted in collaboration, talent development, and long-term growth.

“It’s exciting to have the support of a major brand like Safaricom,” said Mutahi Kibugu. “This opportunity will help us sharpen our skills and compete globally. We’re grateful for the gear and training support, and we promise to make Safaricom proud.”
