The US Department of Defense has awarded a $10.1-million contract to Canadian manufacturer De Havilland to supply a transport aircraft to Guatemala.
The deal, part of a foreign military sale, includes one DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G, spare parts, and ferry flight services.
Work will be carried out in Calgary, Alberta, through December 2025.
The Ontario-based company will coordinate with the US Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Wright-Patterson Base in Ohio to complete the project.
The Twin Otter 300-G
De Havilland’s DHC-6 Twin Otter is a short takeoff and landing platform that was introduced in the 1960s for utility applications.
The modern Classic 300-G variant features upgraded avionics, expanded fuel capacity, and improved power.
In this configuration, the plane extends to 52 feet (17 feet) long, has a wingspan of 65 feet (20 meters), and weighs 7,415 pounds (3,363 kilograms).
It can carry up to 20 passengers or about 2,500 pounds (1,134 kilograms) of payload and has a flight endurance of approximately 5 hours.
The DHC-6 300-G is fitted with a 620-horsepower engine for a speed of 180 knots (207 miles/333 kilometers per hour), a range of 770 nautical miles (886 miles/1,426 kilometers), and an operational altitude of 25,000 feet (7,620 meters).
Variants of the Twin Otter are in service with both the US Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force.
