Pan-African telecommunications and network services provider Paratus Group has announced that, having secured the necessary regulatory licenses, it has launched a new division called Paratus Tanzania through a joint venture with Tanzanian company Green Telecom.
The announcement comes just four months after the group opened Paratus Kenya and further strengthens its entry into East Africa and its ongoing sub-equatorial expansion plans in Africa.
Green Telecom was established in 2013 as a technology solution services provider for mobile network operators. It later moved into providing tailor-made solutions for managing and integrating its clients’ networks services.
Paratus Group Chief Commercial Officer Martin Cox explains that, with professional technical engineering teams on the ground across the entire country, Paratus Tanzania can take full advantage of the opportunities “to reach rural and underserved areas with excellent connectivity and backup solutions”.
MD of Paratus Tanzania, Said Alli notes that with this joint venture the company will be targeting many sectors, notably tourism, which in the last year, saw tourist numbers rise by around 25%. He adds: “Other sectors, including mining, NGOs, the health sector and the EACOP (East African Crude Oil Pipeline), will also be our targets…we will be creating many new jobs over the next year.”
Late November 2024 saw the launch of Paratus Kenya through a joint venture with Nairobi-based IT and ISP company MoveOn Telecoms. The initial purpose of the new company has been to provide and install Starlink services. This launch followed the opening, a few weeks earlier, of Paratus Eswatini.
