Pan-African telecoms and network services provider Paratus Group announced on Wednesday it has expanded its operations into Uganda via a joint venture with Kampala-based ISP and managed solutions provider Roke Telkom.

The new JV, Paratus Uganda, will consolidate the offerings provided by Roke in Uganda and by Paratus Group elsewhere to create a full-service connectivity and cross-border solution for enterprise customers in Uganda and the region.

Paratus Uganda will also target new industry sectors, including healthcare, mining, tourism and NGOs.

Roke, which has been in operation for close to 20 years, has built and managed metro fibre rings in all of Uganda’s major cities and developed managed solutions to provide its government, retail and security clients with integrated networks, security and managed infrastructure.

“Our local strength and coverage combined with Paratus Group’s African and global connectivity makes Paratus Uganda a strong regional partner for all global and domestic enterprise customers in the region,” said Edwin Kyambadde, Roke’s representative for Paratus Uganda.

Paratus Group commercial executive Martin Cox added that the JV enables Paratus to expand its footprint into another key African market.

“Partnering with Roke to establish Paratus Uganda is a key milestone in our expansion strategy and reflects our commitment to delivering quality network services across the continent,” he said in a statement.

The move comes two weeks after Paratus Group opened shop in Rwanda, where it will provide and install Starlink LEO satellite services for enterprise customers.
