Over 400 Youth Graduate from Huawei ICT Training Program

Over 400 young ICT professionals from across Kenya recently completed a two-week technical training under the Presidential Digital Talent Programme (PDTP) Cohort IX.

The graduation ceremony took place at the University of Nairobi’s Chandaria Auditorium.

The program, run in partnership with Huawei Technologies Kenya, provided globally recognized certifications in Networking (HCIA-Datacom), Cloud Computing (HCIA-Cloud Service), and Artificial Intelligence (HCIA-AI).

These certifications equip learners with practical, job-ready skills that support Kenya’s digital transformation.

Government Reaffirms Support for Tech Talent

Speaking at the event, Hon. Eng. John Tanui, Principal Secretary at the State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, emphasized the government’s ongoing investment in digital skills.

“We are deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of digital innovators,” PS Tanui said. “Through PDTP and our collaboration with Huawei, we’re creating a workforce capable of advancing Kenya’s digital economy.”

He added that skills in cloud computing, AI, and networking are not just critical for employment, but also essential for enhancing public service delivery.

PDTP Closes Gaps in Public Sector Skills

Ms. Zilpher Owiti, Acting CEO of the ICT Authority, underlined how PDTP supports national digital goals.

“By blending real-world experience with technical training, PDTP helps young professionals contribute to projects like e-government, cloud deployment, and cybersecurity,” she explained.

Interns are currently working in various ministries and agencies where they will apply their new skills directly.

Huawei Champions Local Tech Development

Mr. Michael Kamau, ICT Academy Manager at Huawei Kenya, expressed the company’s long-term commitment.

“Huawei has walked with Kenya on its digital journey since 1997. Our certifications are trusted across the tech industry as proof of hands-on skills,” he said.

He encouraged graduates to continue learning by pursuing higher-level certifications such as HCIP and HCIE.

PDTP’s Long-Term Impact

Since its inception, the Presidential Digital Talent Programme has trained over 3,300 graduates. More than 2,500 alumni have secured positions in both the public and private sectors.

Ms. Owiti wrapped up the event with an inspiring message:

“This isn’t the end it’s the beginning. We see you as digital entrepreneurs, innovators, and future leaders. Kenya needs you not just to seek jobs, but to create them.”

The Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, ICT Authority, and Huawei Kenya reaffirmed their shared commitment to building a skilled ICT workforce and accelerating Kenya’s digital transformation through meaningful partnerships.
