OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Translate, a new autonomous AI translation tool that supports over 50 languages and handles text, voice, and image translation.
The service is designed to provide a versatile alternative to traditional translation platforms like Google Translate. In the desktop version, it currently supports text translation only, while the mobile browser version includes microphone input for voice translations. Users can select from style presets, such as formal business language, to tailor the translation output.
Unlike Google Translate, ChatGPT Translate does not yet support full websites or documents, and there is no standalone mobile app available. The release builds on OpenAI’s existing translation capabilities in the standard ChatGPT chatbot but packages them as a dedicated web tool. OpenAI has not officially announced the launch or disclosed the underlying AI model powering the service. This development follows the company’s January introduction of ChatGPT Health, a specialized tool for health consultations.
