The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) have renewed their agreement to regularly monitor electromagnetic radiation (EMR) levels from cell towers, ensuring they remain within globally acceptable limits, as outlined in the protocol signed by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the Ministry of Health and Population, and the Ministry of Environment.

This initiative is part of MCIT’s broader efforts to enhance telecom infrastructure and improve digital services through mobile networks, driven by the growing number of cell towers, including both main base stations and small cells.

The agreement, centered on environmental safety and public health, requires the use of advanced technologies to measure EMR levels across the country, in line with international standards. It also aims to meet safety requirements while supporting technological and environmental sustainability.

Under the agreement, NTRA and NTI will work together to digitize the measurement system by automating all related processes and securely storing reports through cloud computing, in line with the Digital Egypt strategy led by MCIT.

NTI specialists, engineers, and experts, under NTRA’s supervision, will measure EMR levels from both new and existing cell towers to ensure they comply with safety standards. The agreement also includes regular assessments to maintain ongoing compliance, reinforcing NTRA’s role in upholding technical and performance quality in telecommunications services.
