Nigeria’s electricity woes have once again made headlines as the national power grid suffered a significant collapse on Wednesday, leading to extensive power outages throughout the country.
In a shocking turn of events, data from the Independent System Operator revealed a steep drop in electricity generation—from a healthy 2,917.83 megawatts (MW) to a staggering 1.5 MW between the hours of 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. Yes, you read that right; that’s not just a dip, it’s practically plummeting!
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to update the public, confirming the glitch in the system. The company noted that the power outage was due to a loss of supply from the national grid at precisely 11:23 am.
The current power outage being experienced is a result of the grid failure, impacting electricity supply across all our service areas, the AEDC stated, attempting to calm the frustrated masses. They also reassured citizens that teams were hard at work alongside key stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid stabilizes.
So, hang tight, Nigeria—hopefully, brighter days (and nights) are just around the corner!
