Nigerians can look forward to a more reliable electricity supply as the Federal Government, via the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), has revealed significant advancements in power generation. This comes as a welcome development after persistent issues with inconsistent power across various regions.
According to a statement released by NISO management, a critical turning point has been reached with the successful repair and restoration of the Lagos-Escravos gas supply infrastructure, previously damaged by acts of vandalism.
The statement highlighted that the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC)’s recent repair efforts have substantially improved gas delivery to numerous vital thermal power plants nationwide. This infrastructural improvement is expected to be a key driver in stabilizing the power supply.
Further fueling optimism for consistent power, NISO indicated that several other thermal power plants throughout the country are prepared and awaiting gas deliveries from their respective suppliers. This suggests a readiness to ramp up power generation as soon as resources become available.
NISO also stated that the affected power plants are currently in the process of gradually increasing their power offtake, a carefully managed approach designed to ensure a seamless recovery and maintain the overall stability of both the gas supply network and the national electricity grid.
It’s worth noting that the promise of improved supply comes after recent disruptions. As reported by DAILY POST, many Nigerians experienced power outages, including residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), during the Christmas holiday, due to a partial collapse of the national grid. The current announcements offer hope for a more stable energy future.
