Did you know that nearly 70% of Nigerian workers are forking over at least 40% of their paychecks just to keep a roof over their heads? That’s right—thanks to the latest findings from the BusinessDay Talk Exchange survey, we’re getting a clearer picture of the housing affordability crisis gripping Nigeria.

According to this eye-opening survey, a staggering 72% of respondents spend between four to six months of their hard-earned income just to cover rent. Can you imagine sacrificing that much of your salary every year just to secure a place to live? It’s a hefty price to pay and a significant financial strain on many households.

This dire situation raises important questions about the sustainability of our current housing costs. With families not only facing rent but also juggling bills for utilities, groceries, and transportation, it’s clear that something has to give. How long can we continue down this path before it becomes untenable? Finding solutions for affordable housing in Nigeria has never been more urgent.
