The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that power has been restored to several regions impacted by the blackout that occurred on Wednesday.
TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah provided this update in a statement released on Wednesday.
The outage was attributed to the tripping of the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330-kilovolt transmission line at the Omotosho end around 11:34 AM.
TCN confirmed that this incident disrupted electricity supply to Lagos, Abuja, and Osogbo.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) would like to clarify that at 11:34 hours today, the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line tripped at the Omotosho end. At that time, the Benin–Egbin 330kV line was undergoing a scheduled outage for mechanical line tracing.
“This tripping led to a cascading outage that affected the Lagos, Abuja, and Osogbo areas. However, all other sections of the grid remained unaffected.”
“The line has been successfully repaired, and normal power supply has been completely restored to the impacted areas.
“We want to reassure Nigerians of our dedication to the effective delivery of bulk power throughout the country as we persist in implementing strategies to improve the stability of the national grid,” the statement stated.
Certain areas of Abuja are still without electricity from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company at the time of this report.
The National Grid faced a disruption on Wednesday, leaving parts of Nigeria in darkness.”
