Benin Republic’s Paras-SBEE and Transcorp-SBEE, Niger’s Mainstream-NIGELEC and Togo’s Odukpani-CEET were on the list of international debtors.
Nigeria is a member of the West African Power Partnership (WAPP), an agency of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) that coordinates electricity exchanges between member states.
As part of this treaty, Nigeria exports electricity to some of its West African neighbors including Niger, the Republic of Benin, and Togo. French In 2023, the country exported $153 million in electricity, making it the 53rd largest electricity exporter in the world at that time.
NERC noted in its report that market operators (MOs) issued invoices for $12.19 million to six companies, but only $6.49 million was paid.
“In the third quarter of 2024, the six (6) international bilateral customers who purchased electricity from the grid-connected GenCos made a cumulative payment of $6.49 million against the $12.19 million invoice issued by OM for services rendered in the third quarter of 2024,” NERC said.
