Wang’uru International Stadium roared with energy this past Sunday as Mwea hosted the grand finale of Season 2 of the Hon. Mary Maingi Super Cup Football Tournament. Thousands of fans, players, performers, and dignitaries gathered, making it one of the biggest grassroots sports events in the region.

This year, the tournament exceeded expectations. It brought together 90 teams from across the constituency and became a celebration of youth empowerment, talent, and community unity. The finals were full of passion, thrilling matches, and festive entertainment.

Final Matches and Festive Vibes

The tournament ended with high-stakes action:

  • 3rd Place (Men): Murubara 0 – 2 Ndorome

  • Women’s Final: Kutus Queens 1 – 1 Mukou Queens (Kutus Queens won 5-4 on penalties)

  • Men’s Final: Kinyaga 1 – 1 Kiriko (Kiriko won 7-6 on penalties)

The winners earned not only cash prizes but also recognition and a proud place in Mwea’s sports history.

Meanwhile, the day doubled as a cultural showcase. Live performances by Wadagliz—famous for Anguka Nayo—and Mugithi star Joyce Wa Mama kept the crowd energized throughout the afternoon.

In her closing remarks, Hon. Mary Maingi, Member of Parliament for Mwea Constituency, praised the players, coaches, and supporters for their dedication.

“Season 2 has shown what’s possible when we support our youth,” she said. “Football has united us and reminded us that peace, hard work, and determination can build a stronger Mwea.”

She also urged the youth to remain focused and avoid divisive politics. Their talent and discipline, she noted, are the real building blocks of the community’s future.

In addition, Hon. Maingi thanked the President, Deputy President, and Kirinyaga County leadership for their critical support. She affirmed that the tournament would continue to grow. “We’re just getting started. Mwea’s talent is boundless,” she said, hinting at a bigger Season 3 ahead.

Fred Ayieko, the Mwea East Deputy County Commissioner, also attended. He emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to youth-focused programs and praised the tournament as a valuable tool for community building and fighting drug abuse.
