Ukraine’s standard infantry rifles are getting an upgrade with a newly-unveiled 5.56mm ammunition designed to take down unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) threats.
The new 5.56mm rounds, the most common caliber used by Ukrainian infantry units, will be fitted with a custom warhead that bursts upon firing, spraying fragments into multiple directions instead of punching straight through like normal bullets.
This allows soldiers to directly engage with fast-moving drones and reconnaissance UAVs using their regular infantry rifles with no additional modifications.
