Nigeria’s telecoms regulator has instructed operators to enhance transparency in their customer interactions, specifically regarding tariff plans, voice and data bundles, and promotional offers.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) emphasized that this directive is intended to ensure subscribers receive clear, accurate, and comprehensible information about the costs associated with phone services, SMS, and data packages.

The NCC has mandated that mobile network operators (MNOs) publish a comprehensive table detailing their tariff plans and bundle features. This table must include all critical information needed for subscribers to make well-informed decisions, such as add-ons, associated costs, opt-in/opt-out procedures, renewal terms, and rollover policies.

Reuben Muoka, NCC Director for Public Affairs, highlighted that the guideline was formulated following extensive consultations with industry stakeholders, including MNOs and customer focus groups, as well as thorough analysis of customer preferences and expectations.

Providers are required to disclose essential details about their tariffs, including plan names, prices, validity periods, per-second rates for both on-network and international calls, estimated internet speeds, and fair usage policies.
