NCBA Trains 38 SME Owners for Business Growth

NCBA Group, in partnership with Strathmore Business School (SBS), has graduated 38 SME customers from its Enterprise Development Programme (EDP). The six-month course is part of NCBA’s wider plan to empower small businesses with tools for long-term growth.

The entrepreneurs came from various sectors including manufacturing, retail, agribusiness, logistics, and professional services. The programme focused on practical skills in financial management, operations, marketing, innovation, and digital transformation. Participants also gained from peer networking and collaborative learning.

Dennis Njau, Acting Group Director of Retail Banking at NCBA, said the programme equips entrepreneurs to scale and adapt. “We are proud to support our SME customers with the knowledge and strategies they need to thrive in a dynamic market.”

New Lending Boost and Growth Opportunities

The graduation coincides with NCBA’s renewed 10-year partnership with the African Guarantee Fund (AGF). This partnership has doubled the bank’s SME lending capacity—from KES 1.5 billion to KES 3 billion—making financing more accessible for business owners.

Njau emphasized that NCBA offers more than funding. “We combine financing with business training to create lasting impact.”

Caesar Mwangi, Executive Dean at SBS, praised the partnership’s results. “This programme is built to solve real-world problems that SMEs face every day. We’re proud of the practical learning experience we’ve delivered.”

Over 100 SME customers have completed the EDP so far. The next intake opens on June 10, 2025.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be an NCBA customer with an active business account (6+ months)

  • Run a business that’s 2–3 years old, employs at least three people, and earns KES 3M+ per year

  • Be the main decision-maker and majority shareholder

In addition to the EDP, NCBA and SBS offer other SME-focused initiatives such as the Owners Management Programme, business boot camps, networking forums, and trade expos—delivered through the Strathmore Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Centre.
