NCBA Opens 99th Branch in Kawangware to Deepen Financial Inclusion
NCBA has opened its 99th branch in Kawangware, aiming to bring banking services closer to underserved communities in Nairobi. This expansion aligns with the bank’s mission to boost financial inclusion and strengthen support for retail and SME customers.
Since opening in December 2024, the branch has performed strongly. It has already attracted 1,106 new accounts and 402 merchant tills. Its balance sheet now stands at KES 235.7 million and continues to grow.
On average, the branch serves 130 customers each day. Most are seeking services such as digital banking, personal and SME loans, group lending, and merchant tools. Additionally, demand for cash collection solutions is rising.
During the launch, Dennis Njau, NCBA’s Acting Group Director for Retail Banking, noted:
“It is a proud moment to open our 99th branch in Kawangware, a community full of energy and enterprise.”
He emphasized that NCBA’s strategy is focused on becoming the go-to bank for SMEs and retail customers. To support this, the bank offers tools like mobile loans, asset finance, digital onboarding, and NCBA tills.

Supporting Local Enterprise and Community Growth
The Kawangware branch is already financing a range of sectors. These include transport, retail, hospitality, education, real estate, and religious institutions. The branch holds liabilities of KES 163.3 million and a loan book worth KES 72.4 million, both of which are growing steadily.
Moreover, the branch is playing a key role in supporting local businesses, especially in the informal sector. Thanks to its location, more entrepreneurs are opening accounts and using digital tools to manage their finances.
According to Njau, the new branch deepens NCBA’s collaboration with Nairobi County. It also empowers local enterprises by providing access to vital financial services.
Hon. Beatrice Elachi, MP for Dagoretti North, praised the initiative:
“By bringing banking services closer, we’re opening doors for thousands of entrepreneurs. Partnerships like these are essential for building a stronger, more inclusive economy.”
Beyond banking, NCBA is advancing its sustainability agenda. As part of its goal to grow 10 million trees by 2030, the bank planted 110 trees in partnership with the Missionary Sisters of Precious Blood. The team also donated eco-friendly school bags and food to Amani Primary School during the community outreach.
Looking ahead, NCBA plans to open its 100th branch soon. The success of the Kawangware branch highlights how proximity, partnerships, and people-first banking can fuel long-term growth and shared prosperity.
