Accelerating Renewable Energy Adoption in Kenyan Manufacturing
NCBA, in partnership with renewable energy leader Ofgen Africa, has officially handed over a newly installed roof-mounted, grid-tied 181kWp (DC)/130kWp (AC) Solar PV system to Haco Industries.
This initiative is a major stride toward supporting Kenyan businesses in reducing operational costs while embracing cleaner, sustainable energy alternatives.
The partnership delivers a one-stop-shop for sustainability. It combines Ofgen Africa’s advanced solar technology with NCBA’s flexible and accessible financing solutions. As a result, companies like Haco Industries can meet sustainability targets without straining their cash flow or capital.

Driving Financial and Environmental Impact
“We are thrilled to support Haco Industries in this transformative shift toward clean energy,” said Robert Marete, NCBA Deputy Director Leasing LLP. “This project shows how sustainable financing and innovative partnerships can help businesses adopt green technologies and secure long-term financial and environmental gains.”
Thanks to this collaboration, Haco Industries is set to reduce its electricity bills by 41 percent. This cost saving will free up funds for reinvestment into growth, innovation, and operations.
Importantly, the solar PV system will also cover 41 percent of the company’s energy needs, reducing dependence on the national grid and lowering carbon emissions significantly.
Maryann Musangi, Managing Director at Haco Industries, emphasized the impact: “We are happy to partner with NCBA and Ofgen Africa on this sustainability journey. This solar installation is a significant milestone for us. It allows us to reduce operational costs and reinforces our promise to the communities we serve.”
Leading Kenya’s Manufacturing Toward a Greener Future
The timeline for similar installations typically ranges from one week to six months, depending on complexity. Now completed, Haco Industries stands out as a trailblazer in Kenya’s manufacturing space leading the shift toward responsible and sustainable practices.
This project also aligns with NCBA’s broader sustainability agenda, Change the Story, launched in 2023. Through this strategy, the bank has committed to mobilizing at least KES 30 billion in sustainable finance by 2030. NCBA, which serves over 60 million customers across Africa, continues to drive the transition to low-carbon development pathways.
Expanding Clean Energy Access to SMEs
Looking ahead, NCBA and Ofgen Africa plan to scale similar projects across various sectors. Their focus will especially target small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which often face funding gaps despite their willingness to adopt green technologies.
By providing financial and technical support, this partnership hopes to enable wider access to renewable energy across Kenya’s business landscape.
