NCBA has announced a strategic partnership with Kabarak University to launch a Business Development Programme (BDP) for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across Kenya.

The collaboration reinforces NCBA’s commitment to supporting SME growth through training, mentorship, and practical business support.

Empowering Entrepreneurs Through Structured Learning

The NCBA–Kabarak University partnership will deliver a four-month structured training program to help entrepreneurs scale their businesses sustainably.

The course includes 96 contact hours covering strategic planning, compliance, product development, finance, risk management, and technology integration.

Participants will also engage in case studies, peer-to-peer roundtables, and field visits to gain real-world business insights. The program blends classroom learning with hands-on experience.

“We believe SMEs are the engine of economic growth in Kenya. This partnership with Kabarak University allows us to offer our customers strategic business skills and expert guidance to succeed in today’s complex marketplace,” said Mr. Dennis Njau, NCBA Group Director, Retail Banking.

He added that this partnership builds on NCBA’s earlier collaboration with Strathmore Business School, further highlighting the bank’s focus on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and inclusive growth.

Driving Entrepreneurship and Economic Resilience

The training will be led by experienced faculty from Kabarak University’s School of Business and Economics, alongside industry professionals.

Entrepreneurs will meet once a week, making the program both flexible and convenient for working business owners. Sessions will take place at Kabarak University and other selected venues in Central and Northern Rift regions.

Speaking during the launch, Vice Chancellor of Kabarak University, Professor Henry Kiptiony Kiplangat, praised the initiative.

He said the joint program will strengthen Kenya’s entrepreneurial sector by bridging knowledge gaps and improving business sustainability.

He noted that the initiative supports Kabarak University’s mission to build Kenya’s economic resilience and create jobs by equipping SMEs with managerial and strategic expertise.

“Entrepreneurs are the heartbeat of our economy. Through this program, we aim to give them not only business knowledge but also the adaptability required to thrive in a dynamic environment,” he added.

Accessible Program for SME Clients

The program is open to NCBA’s SME clients, with the bank committing to enrolling at least 20 participants per group. The participation fee is KES 80,000, payable in two instalments.

NCBA https://ke.ncbagroup.com/ will also receive complimentary slots for certain workshops and will co-sponsor major SME engagement events in partnership with Kabarak University.

Entrepreneurs interested in joining the programme can register through either NCBA or Kabarak University.
