NCBA Expands Branch Network to Kawangware

NCBA has officially opened its 99th branch in Kawangware, Nairobi, marking a strategic step to bring financial services closer to underserved communities and support the region’s growing SME and retail base.

Speaking during the launch, Dennis Njau, Acting Group Director, Retail Banking, said:

“It is a proud moment to open in Kawangware—a vibrant, entrepreneurial community. Our goal is to scale up retail banking and be the primary bank for SME and retail customers.”

He added that NCBA’s product offering—including digital account onboarding, mobile loans, asset finance, and NCBA tills—is designed to make banking services more accessible, inclusive, and impactful for everyday Kenyans.

Driving Inclusion, Growth, and Community Impact

Since its initial setup in late 2024, the branch has already recorded over 1,106 new accounts and 402 merchant tills, reflecting strong uptake in the area. With an active loan book of KES 72.4 million and liabilities of KES 163.3 million, the branch is supporting businesses in key sectors such as transport, consumer goods, food and hospitality, retail trade, and education.

The branch is also promoting digital banking adoption, allowing customers to benefit from fast, efficient, and secure transactions. For informal sector businesses, proximity to a reliable financial institution has encouraged them to formalize operations and adopt tools like NCBA Tills.

Hon. Beatrice Elachi, MP for Dagoretti North, praised the development:

“This partnership reflects a shared commitment to empowering small businesses. By opening this branch, we are opening doors for thousands of entrepreneurs.”

Committed to Sustainability and Social Impact

As part of its Change the Story Sustainability Agenda, NCBA partnered with the Missionary Sisters of Precious Blood to plant 110 trees. The bank also donated sustainable school bags and food supplies to Amani Primary School, reinforcing its community-first approach.

With its 100th branch opening soon, NCBA views the Kawangware branch as a model of how access, innovation, and partnerships can unlock economic potential and build lasting prosperity.
