Late June saw the NBA introduce a new salary cap that meant no team could spend more than 136.021 million dollars on player wages for the 2023/24 season.

It also confirmed that the tax level for the 2023/24 season is 165.294 million dollars.

These new rules came into effect at 12:01 am ET on Saturday, July 1, and teams have had to keep them firmly in mind ever since.

The NBA salary cap space for every team

Here is the current NBA cap space for all 30 teams, where only two teams are currently within the limits.

All figures are in dollars, and the cap space is with cap holds included if team salary was below the cap maximum.

  2. Utah Jazz – 41,629 dollars
  3. Orlando Magic – -3,334,784 dollars
  4. Indiana Pacers – -3,547,590 dollars
  5. Houston Rockets – -7,701,597 dollars
  6. Sacramento Kings – -11,739,757 dollars
  7. Oklahoma City Thunder – -13,737,164 dollars
  8. Memphis Grizzlies – -17,641,366 dollars
  9. San Antonio Spurs – -19,363,680 dollars
  10. Atlanta Hawks – -23,222,718 dollars
  11. Charlotte Hornets – -25,828,912 dollars
  12. New York Knicks – -26,336,756 dollars
  13. Toronto Raptors – -30,123,199 dollars
  14. Brooklyn Nets – -32,038,485 dollars
  15. Portland Trail Blazers – -39,380,419 dollars
  16. Chicago Bulls – -39,393,876 dollars
  17. Cleveland Cavaliers – -39,963,818 dollars

Can NBA teams go over the salary cap?

The NBA actually has a ‘soft cap’ unlike most American sports, so teams are actually able to exceed the cap under certain circumstances.

Team can pay for the penalty of how much they have exceeded the limits, and the Golden State Warriors and the Brooklyn Nets are two of the teams that have done this in recent years.
