The Egyptian Navy has renewed its contract with Naval Group for the in-service support (ISS) of vessels supplied to the Egyptian Navy, covering a period of five years.
The ISS contract first came into effect in 2019. The new agreement will see teams of engineers and technicians maintaining seven vessels: the multi-mission frigate (FREMM) Tahya Misr, the two Egyptian Landing Helicopter Docks (LHDs) Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar El Sadat, and the four Gowind corvettes El Fateh, Port Said, El Moez and Al Ismailia.
The signing of this extension at the beginning of December strengthens the collaboration between Naval Group and the Egyptian Navy, which began around ten years ago, and ensures Naval Group’s long-term presence in the country, the company said. Naval Group will provide work opportunities for Egyptian employees to expand its teams in Egypt. Discussions are also underway to forge new partnerships with Egyptian suppliers, who will participate in ship maintenance operations alongside Naval Group and the Egyptian Navy.
“We are honoured to extend our cooperation with the Egyptian Navy and to continue our support in the maintenance and modernisation of its fleet,” said Pierre Eric Pommellet, Chairman and CEO of Naval Group.
Naval Group has supplied the Egyptian Navy with a multi-mission frigate (FREMM), two Mistral-class Egyptian Landing Helicopter Docks and four Gowind corvettes, three of which were built locally through a technology transfer programme. The group also inaugurated its subsidiary in Alexandria in 2018, marking the group’s long-term local presence.
