Elbit Systems has received a $175-million deal to provide self-protection suites to a European NATO customer’s aircraft.
The package incorporates electronic warfare (EW) systems, and directional infrared countermeasures (DIRCMs) will be fitted into the country’s Airbus H225M tactical helicopters and Embraer C-390 Millennium airlifters.
Part of the contract is the supply of the EW devices to a separate C-390 fleet operated by the user’s NATO co-member.
Each suite will include Elbit’s proprietary radar warning receivers, infrared missile and laser warning systems, dispensers, and multi-spectral infrared laser-based countermeasure systems.
Additionally, the firm will supply its self protection, electronic attack, and reconnaissance (SPEAR) pods, which carry the countermeasure devices and are transferable between aircraft.
Work for the contract will take place for five years, Elbit said.
