Seventeen commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC) took their oath of office and allegiance before President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Wednesday.
The NPC is Nigeria’s primary data collection commission responsible for gathering, organizing, analyzing, and publishing data on the Nigerian population and economy.

It also conducts demographic surveys, compiles migration and civil registration statistics, and monitors the country’s population policy.
Two weeks ago, the Senate screened and confirmed 17 out of the 19 commissioners nominated by President Tinubu, as the other two did not appear for screening.

The commissioners who took their oath of office on Wednesday include Mr. Emmanuel Eke (Abia), Mr. Clifford Zirra (Adamawa), Mr. Chidi Ezeoke (Anambra), Malam Isa Buratai (Borno), Mr. Alex Ukam (Cross River), and Blessyn Brume-Maguha (Delta).
Also sworn in were Dr. Jeremiah Nwankwegu (Ebonyi), Dr. Tony Alyejina (Edo), Mr. Ejike Ezeh (Enugu), Malam Abubakar Damburam (Gombe), Prof. Uba Nnabue (Imo), and Hajia Sa’adatu Garba (Kaduna).
Others included Dr. Aminu Tsanyawa (Kano), Mr. Yori Afolabi (Kogi), Mrs. Mary Afan (Plateau), Mr. Saany Sale (Taraba), and Ogiri Henry (Rivers).
