Nigerians experienced a decrease in electricity supply from the national grid, with available power recorded at 3,810 megawatts as of January 11, 2026.

This information was released by the national grid operator.

This 3,810 megawatt figure represents the cumulative electricity supplied to the eleven distribution companies (DisCos) across the nation for distribution to consumers.

The current electricity supply is notably lower than the 4,330 megawatts allocated to DisCos on January 5th, 2025.

This signifies a reduction of 520 megawatts in the electricity distributed to DisCos from the national grid in under a week.

This development occurs as the power grid struggles for stability following its most recent collapse on December 29th, 2025, which resulted in a nationwide blackout.

The Nigerian National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) revealed in their latest quarterly report that twenty companies applied for permits to disconnect from the national grid and establish independent power generation in the third quarter of 2025.
