MTN announced a reshuffle of its leadership, appointing group chief risk officer Ferdi Moolman as CEO and executive director of MTN South Africa, succeeding Charles Molapisi as part of a strategic review and operational shift.
Molapisi will return to his previous role of group chief technology and information officer (GCTIO) from 1 November. During his tenure as head of MTN’s home market, the operator highlighted his leadership through a challenging period marked by frequent power outages that tested network resilience.
His successor, Moolman, has held several senior positions across the group, including five years as CEO of MTN Nigeria until 2021.
Meanwhile, MTN Group VP for Southern and East Africa, Yolanda Cuba, will step down from her regional role to support Moolman as deputy CEO and executive director in South Africa.
The operator said in a stock exchange filing: “Both Ferdi and Yolanda bring extensive group-wide experience and will collaborate to accelerate growth and maximise returns in MTN South Africa.”
MTN added it will separate the GCTIO role from that of chief of digital infrastructure.
Current GCTIO and CEO of Digital Infrastructure, Mazen Mroue, will focus on accelerating MTN’s fibre and data centre business across Africa. He will also work strategically with tower company partners and pursue network-sharing opportunities to drive efficiencies.
Other leadership changes include Group Chief Commercial Officer Selorm Adadevoh, who takes on additional responsibility for strategy and transformation.
Current Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, Chika Ekeji, will step down from the group executive committee to focus on emerging businesses.
