Morehouse College formally inaugurated F. DuBois Bowman as its 13th president yesterday, marking a homecoming for the distinguished alumnus during the institution’s 159th Founder’s Week.
Bowman, who graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the historically Black men’s college in 1992, assumed the presidency last July. His deep ties to the Atlanta University Center ecosystem include service on advisory boards and leadership of mentorship programs at both Morehouse and neighboring Spelman College.
In 2019, he received the Bennie Trailblazer Award, an honor named for the legendary former Morehouse president Benjamin E. Mays.
His return to campus is a family affair. Bowman is married to Cynthia Bowman, a Spelman alumna, and together they are the parents of a 2024 Morehouse graduate and a current sophomore.
Before returning to his alma mater, Bowman served as dean of the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health. His career also includes executive leadership roles at Columbia University and Emory University, positioning him at the intersection of higher education administration and health policy.
During the inauguration ceremony, Bowman outlined a vision centered on academic rigor, character development, and expanding the college’s global influence. His appointment continues a tradition of leadership depth at an institution that has produced generations of Black leaders across sectors.
