The traditional ruler of Abavo Kingdom, Uche Irenuma 11 has appealed to the state government to, as a matter of urgency, determine and terminate the Abavo Electrification Step down project awarded by the immediate past administration in the State.
The monarch made the appeal while addressing journalists in his palace at the grand finale of the ,New yam festival celebrated by the community.
Uche Irenuma 11 decried the shoddy job done by the contactor saying that the firm lacked the competence , technical knowhow and expertise to execute the project.”
He, therefore, urged the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration to remove every encumbrances impeding the speedy execution of the project, saying that the contract should be executed in line with job specification and contractual agreement.
While commending the former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration for awarding the contract , the monarch expressed concern that the contractor could not deliver, thereby denying the people the benefits of the project.
He enjoined youths of the community to remain calm, law-abiding and supportive of Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E agenda, expressing optimism that Deltans would enjoy more dividends of democracy during his administration.
He also encouraged youths in the kingdom to shun the get- rich – quick syndrome and focus on their educational pursuit to enable them contribute more meaningfully to the growth and development of the community , state and the sation at large.
In their separate remarks, the Odafiakeze of Abavo Chief Odigie Yusuf emphasised on the importance of the electricity project to the people.
Members of the Obi-in-Council, who spoke on the significance of the New Yam festival said it was an age-long festival designed to appreciate God for a bountiful harvest.
They said the festival was a way a way of preserving the cultural identity of the people and sued for its continued sustenance for generations yet unborn.
Those who spoke included Chief Simon Isisiadi, Chief Jonathan Agbejiagwe, and Chief I.K best Dikenwosi among others.
The grand finale of the seven- day festival featured merry making, paying of homage to the King Uche Irenuma 11 and offering of special prayers for the continued peace, progress and development of Abavo Kingdom by the Monarch at the Sacred Palace Garden otherwise called Enya – Nze, within the suburb of the palace. The ceremony was attended by the political class, indigenes of Abavo and a cross section of the society
