Microsoft has unveiled a $1 million plan to train one million Nigerians in AI and digital skills over the next two years, partnering with organizations like Tech4Dev and Data Science Nigeria. The company views AI as a future driver of Nigeria’s economic growth, potentially adding $15 billion to the country’s economy. However, while the initiative demonstrates Microsoft’s commitment to play a role in Africa’s emerging AI ecosystem, critics question its feasibility as the $1 million fund equates to just $1 per trainee. The company has also not disclosed the program’s curriculum, meaning it is currently unknown whether the initiative will only provide introductory knowledge or also offer hands-on training.
