The government of Mauritius has introduced a new scheme providing free mobile internet to citizens aged 18 to 25, aiming to equip the younger generation for the digital future.
Announced in Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth’s 2024-2025 Budget Speech, the program targets around 100,000 individuals and is managed by the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA).
Eligible youth can register via the MRA website by submitting their National Identity Card Number and mobile number. Upon approval, they receive a free, renewable 200GB monthly package from My.t Mobile, Emtel, or Chili Mauritius, with 4G/5G connectivity and access to 350 Wi-Fi hotspots.
Jugnauth emphasized that the scheme aims to empower youth with digital tools and resources, and to promote affordable internet access across socioeconomic backgrounds. He also urged young people to avoid misusing the internet.
