In a pivotal step toward strengthening regional digital cooperation, the Republic of Malawi has formally ratified the Constitution and Convention of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU).

During a ceremonial event held at the Malawi High Commission in Nairobi, Her Excellency Mrs. Callista Jennie Mutharika, High Commissioner of the Republic of Malawi to the Republic of Kenya, officially handed over Malawi’s instruments of ratification to the ATU.

This significant milestone brings the continent closer to achieving full ratification by all 52 ATU Member States, an essential goal in the collective effort to harmonize ICT policies, enhance regional integration, and accelerate Africa’s digital transformation.

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) praised the leadership and vision of the Malawian government in reinforcing its commitment to a connected and inclusive Africa. MACRA also encouraged the remaining Member States to finalize their ratification processes, underlining that full participation in the ATU framework is key to unlocking the continent’s vast digital potential.

As the ATU continues its mission to promote the development of information and communication technologies across Africa, Malawi’s ratification marks a renewed momentum in aligning national priorities with regional goals for sustainable digital growth.
