Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took to X (Twitter) Monday to lament the fact he could have completed his flying sideline pass to tight end Travis Kelce, who was wide open across the field.
Mahomes, 27, nearly completed an insane pass while he was jumping out of bounds in an NFL preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday. One X user pointed out how Kelce was wide open during that wild play.
“Can’t believe I missed it,” Mahomes tweeted.
He also tagged Kelce’s X account, though the tight end has yet to respond. Mahomes finished the game with 105 passing yards and a touchdown on 10-for-15 completions.
Kelce, 33, only caught one pass, but it was for a 20-yard gain. Chiefs have one more preseason game Saturday at home against the Cleveland Browns.
Chiefs QB2 race remains tight
The race for the position to back up Mahomes is tighter than ever between Shane Buechele and Blaine Gabbert.
Buechele, 25, has impressed Mahomes and Chiefs fans in the first two preseason games. He threw for a perfect 105 passing yards on 10-for-10 completions against the Cardinals, but no touchdowns.
Gabbert, 33, then stepped in third against Arizona and had the best performance of all three quarterbacks.
He finished the night with 120 passing yards and two touchdowns on 7-for-8 completions. Playing alongside Mahomes has made Buechele and Gabbert incredible options for any team.
