M-Pesa Foundation Launches KES 115M School Projects in Lamu
M-Pesa Foundation https://m-pesafoundation.org/ has commissioned KSH15 million school projects in Lamu county. The work will benefit Maisha Masha and Mtangawanda Primary Schools. These efforts are part of the Citizens of the Future programme, which focuses on enhancing education through better infrastructure.
In Witu, Lamu West Sub-County, Maisha Masha Primary School will receive KES 70 million. The funds will go towards 12 new classrooms, a kitchen, a science lab, and a 40-seater ICT lab. These facilities will serve both primary and ECDE learners. Additionally, a borehole and water kiosk will be installed to ensure a steady supply of clean water for the school and surrounding community.

Patricia Ithau, a Trustee at M-Pesa Foundation, noted that education remains a top priority.
“We believe education is key to development. Through this programme, we are helping learners access the tools they need to succeed,” she said.
Lamu County Leaders Welcome the Investment
Meanwhile, Mtangawanda Primary School in Faza, Lamu East, will receive KES 45 million. This investment includes new classrooms for Grades 1 to 9, a new ECDE block, an administration building, and an ICT lab. A borehole will also be drilled to reduce water shortages in the area.

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy praised the Foundation’s continued support.
“M-Pesa Foundation has been a strong partner. Their work in education and healthcare is helping shape a brighter future for our communities,” he said.

Notably, the Foundation has carried out similar projects in several counties. These include Homa Bay, Meru, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Bungoma, Baringo, Bomet, Siaya, Migori, and Vihiga.
As a result, thousands of learners across Kenya are now studying in safer, better-equipped schools. The Foundation’s long-term goal is to bridge the gap in access to quality education, especially in underserved regions.
By working with local governments and communities, M-Pesa Foundation hopes to create lasting change that empowers future generations.
