M-PESA Ethiopia and Gebeya, an African AI-powered creator platform, have introduced the Dala AI Bundle, a subscription service that gives Ethiopians access to advanced AI creation tools payable via M-PESA wallets.

It marks the first time an African mobile-money operator has bundled AI-powered creation tools as a mainstream consumer product.

Through Dala Studio, users can build apps, create AI agents, develop games, generate comics and produce content in Amharic, Oromo and other local languages. Payments process seamlessly through M-PESA, removing traditional barriers to digital-creation tools.

The partnership extends Gebeya’s work in Ethiopia via the Safaricom Talent Cloud, which has trained thousands of local developers. By leveraging M-PESA’s distribution network, the bundle aims to democratize AI access and accelerate Ethiopia’s digital transformation.

“Every Ethiopian with a mobile phone” can now create digital assets in their own language, said Amadou Daffe, Gebeya’s chief executive.

The partnership signals M-PESA’s shift beyond payments into digital services while providing Gebeya with nationwide distribution. More broadly, the initiative reflects Ethiopia’s push to expand AI adoption and accelerate its digital economy.
