Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $4.9 billion contract to deliver its long-range Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) to the US Army under Increment One.

According to a contract notice released on Friday, the award follows a competitive solicitation process, with only one bid submitted.

The contract comes after a successful live-fire exercise in mid-2024, where the PrSM engaged a moving maritime target using an autonomous multi-domain launcher.

The contract also builds on a key 2023 milestone when the missile completed a production qualification flight test in its “most stressful environment.”

Work for the Increment One contract will be carried out at an undisclosed location, with an estimated completion date of March 2030.

Increment Two

The PrSM is a next-generation surface-to-surface weapon engineered to attack, neutralize, suppress, and destroy advanced threats.

With an operational range exceeding 499 kilometers (310 miles), the PrSM can be further enhanced with future upgrades for increased effectiveness.

A PrSM launch pod is capable of carrying and firing two missiles, providing greater flexibility and boosting strike capabilities.

In May 2024, the US Army announced the requirements for Increment Two, highlighting a sleeker design and an increased magazine capacity, doubling the number of rounds per launcher.

Although it will continue to be launched from both the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System and the M270A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System, Increment Two is expected to deliver improvements in velocity, range, and overall strike effectiveness.
