The US Navy has awarded defense firm Lockheed Martin two contracts worth a combined total of approximately $3.3 billion to work on the Trident II D5 missile program.

In the first contract, Lockheed’s Space division received $2.11 billion for the Trident II D5 missile production and deployed systems support and Warhead 93/Mark7 development.

Moreover, the Navy earmarked $143.5 million from its fiscal 2024 weapons budget for the effort.

Work will be primarily performed in Colorado (24 percent) and Pennsylvania (19.3 percent) among other US locations, and is expected to be completed by September 30, 2029.

The second $1.17 billion contract went to Lockheed’s Rotary and Mission Systems Division to provide Strategic Weapon System Trident fleet support, Trident II shipboard integration increment eight, and navigation subsystem development.

Most of the work will be conducted at Mitchel Field, New York, with additional work in California and other US locations, and is anticipated to be completed by September 29, 2031.

The two contracts include foreign military sales to the UK.

Last year, Lockheed also clinched a $1.2-billion contract to produce Trident II (D5) submarine-launched ballistic missiles for the US and UK.
