Lockheed Martin will integrate Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform into its AI Factory to enhance the development of generative artificial intelligence (AI) models.

The collaboration aims to advance AI-driven capabilities in national security, aerospace, and scientific applications.

Vertex AI enables scalable training and deployment of large language models, including Gemini 2.0 Flash, optimizing them for AI-based applications.

Lockheed Martin will leverage these capabilities to develop advanced AI solutions, including deployment in air-gapped environments — isolated networks without internet access.

AI capabilities will support intelligence analysis, real-time decision-making, predictive maintenance, and optimized engineering.

“Using Google Cloud’s AI technologies allows us to explore a wide range of powerful capabilities to deliver innovative, reliable solutions that stay ahead of the curve,” said John Clark, senior VP at Lockheed Martin Technology & Strategic Innovation.

The integration will also enhance supply chain management, software development, and workforce training.

“Lockheed Martin and Google Cloud share a vision to bring new innovation to the industry with AI,” stated Jim Kelly, VP Federal, Google Public Sector.

“Our Google Cloud AI technologies will provide Lockheed Martin with a powerful toolset to address some of their most demanding issues faster than ever before,” added Kelly.

Lockheed’s AI Advancement

Lockheed Martin applied AI and machine learning across hundreds of projects to improve defense systems and streamline operations. It also collaborates with RedHat, NVIDIA, and Microsoft to drive innovation.

The Lockheed Martin AI Center (LAIC) leads AI adoption through research, prototyping, training, and product integration.

Within LAIC, the AI Factory centralizes tools for machine learning development, simplifying access to computing, data, software, and security.

It also accelerates development by automating workflows, allowing engineers to focus on building cutting-edge AI models.
