Lithuania has taken delivery of 50 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) as part of a US foreign military sale signed in 2019.

The package is the third batch shipped to Vilnius under the project’s second phase, which already covered 35 JLTVs in March 2024 and another 150 five months later.

The first phase was completed in January 2024, delivering a total of 200 systems to the Baltic state.

Later this year, the Lithuanian Armed Forces is expected to receive 65 more JLTVs from the US, which will complete the foreign military sale’s overall target of 500 units.

The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle

Designed by Oshkosh Defense, the JLTV is produced for light transport and combat missions. It was originally developed to partially replace the US military’s High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle or Humvee and has since undergone several upgrades.

The 4×4 system is 21 feet (6 meters) long, has a 5,100-pound (2,313-kilogram) maximum payload capacity, and can carry up to five personnel.

It is run by an Allison six-speed automatic transmission and a 400-horsepower Gale Banks Engine based on the General Motors Duramax V8 engine for a top speed of 70 miles (113 kilometers) per hour and a range of 300 miles (483 kilometers).

The JLTV can be equipped with different standards of chassis armor and a combination of light to heavy caliber weapons including machine guns, close combat systems, automatic grenade launchers, and anti-tank guided missiles.
