In a coordinated operation recently the Lagos State Taskforce demolished more than 50 illegal structures, including shanties and makeshift buildings, along Agungi Ajiran Road in the Lekki area.
At the site of the operation, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, the agency’s chairman, emphasized that this action is part of the government’s efforts to restore order and maintain decorum throughout the metropolis, in line with the THEMES PLUS Agenda of the current administration.
Akerele noted that the occupants of these illegal structures had been issued eviction notices two weeks prior but chose to ignore them.
He stated, “Residents have long expressed concerns about the rising illegal activities within these shanties, which have led to environmental degradation, security risks, and disturbances in the neighborhood. Despite multiple eviction notices, the occupants remained defiant. This morning, we successfully removed over 50 illegal structures.”
He further explained that these structures not only mar the aesthetic of the well-planned residential area but also violate the state government’s physical planning regulations along the Lekki-Epe corridor. “Their ongoing presence has raised significant concerns, which is why our actions reflect the state government’s commitment to ensuring that residential areas are safe and livable,” he added.
Akerele assured residents that this demolition effort would continue indefinitely, as additional shanties in other parts of the Lekki axis have also been served removal notices. He urged occupants to vacate the shanties and dismantle any illegal structures in the area to avoid forceful demolition by the agency
