In a remarkable turnout, residents of Lagos State lined up eagerly to avail themselves of bags of rice offered by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at an incredibly affordable price of N10,000.
This surge in demand follows the announcement by the Customs of the commencement of distribution of seized food items on the specified day.
Emphasizing the transparency of the process, NCS Comptroller General, Adewale Adeniyi, reiterated in a statement to journalists in Lagos that customs officials were strictly prohibited from involvement in the distribution process.
A video capturing the scene depicted an orderly queue, with women patiently awaiting their turn to receive the rice they had purchased.
According to the official statement relayed by NCS National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the rice will be meticulously packaged in 25kg bags, all priced at N10,000.

Adeniyi further elaborated that the initiative was tailored to benefit specific groups such as artisans, teachers, nurses, religious bodies, and other residents within the NCS operational areas.
The primary goal of the initiative, as outlined by Adeniyi, is to establish direct communication channels with members of these groups to ensure the smooth and effective distribution process.
Moreover, the Comptroller General issued a stern warning against the resale of the food items, underscoring the NCS’s unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability throughout the operation.
