The Lagos State Government has denied approving any of the buildings that were recently demolished in the state. The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, made this assertion during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program on Wednesday.

Olumide stated that the demolished structures were not approved by any of the government agencies responsible for such matters. He emphasized that any building constructed without adhering to the law is subject to demolition.

The commissioner challenged the owners of the demolished buildings in Ikota, Lekki, Alaba, Ajao Estate, Abule Ado, Ladipo Market, and other areas to present their building approvals. He also refuted claims that the state government is targeting homeowners from the southeast geopolitical zone, stating that anyone can own a property in Lagos as long as they follow the established rules.

Olumide acknowledged that some of the demolished structures were hastily constructed during the COVID-19 lockdown when enforcement activities were reduced due to movement restrictions. He reiterated that none of these buildings had government approval.

The commissioner assured residents of the state that the government will not demolish any approved structures. He urged property owners to follow the proper procedures and obtain necessary approvals before embarking on construction projects.
