The Lagos State Government has announced the delivery of 5,976 homes through its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative since 2019. This initiative has significantly contributed to alleviating the housing deficit in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
During a Ministerial Press briefing highlighting the housing achievements of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, provided a detailed breakdown. He noted that the ministry’s efforts to provide affordable housing through direct budgetary funding resulted in 3,994 units of one, two, and three-bedroom homes. Additionally, the PPP initiative across the housing sector has produced another 5,976 homes for allottees, bringing the total to 9,970 units.
“This administration has successfully increased the state’s housing stock by a total of 9,970 home units over the past six years,” he stated.
In June 2024, Akinderu-Fatai announced that the government had delivered and commissioned the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Estate (Cluster 1), which includes 270 two-bedroom apartments. This brings the total number of housing estates completed by Sanwo-Olu’s administration across the five administrative divisions of Lagos State to 21 since 2019.
The commissioner also shared updates on ongoing housing projects funded through budget allocations, stating that five schemes are currently in progress. These include the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Scheme (Clusters II and III), which will provide a total of 576 units in the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. Additionally, the LagosHOMS Sangotedo Phase 2, located in the Eti-Osa East LCDA, will consist of 528 housing units, with completion anticipated by the third quarter of 2025.
The Epe Housing Scheme in Itamarun, Epe Local Government, is projected to deliver 112 housing units by the fourth quarter of 2025.
Other projects include the LagosHOMS Ajara in Badagry Local Government, which is set to provide 420 housing units expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025.
Additionally, the LagosHOMS Ibeshe Phase 2 will offer 192 housing units in the Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, with a completion target of the third quarter of 2025.
