The Federal Government intends to construct an underwater tunnel linking Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island to Snake Island. This tunnel will connect the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway with the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway via the Badagry area in Lagos.
During an interview on Arise News Television on Sunday, Minister of Works David Umahi discussed this initiative, highlighting the tunnel’s importance in enhancing connectivity.
Umahi also mentioned the Trans-Sahara Road, which will connect Calabar to Abuja through the states of Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, and Nassarawa.
This infrastructure network aims to create a loop that links Abuja to the North East via the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gomber Road, encompassing all six geopolitical zones.
The Trans-Sahara Road will extend from Calabar to Ebonyi, then to Benue, Kogi, Nassarawa, and finally to Abuja. This project is the third major initiative of the President.
These legacy road projects are all interrelated. The Lagos-Calabar route connects through Calabar to Ebonyi and Abuja. At the Lagos end, it links via Ahmadu Bello Way to a lagoon, where we plan to construct a tunnel leading to Snake Island and then to Badagry, which will connect with the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway.
