Lagos, Nigeria, and Cairo, Egypt have been named among the top 10 riskiest places for tourists globally in Forbes Advisor’s 2024 rankings.

When planning a trip, travellers often weigh a multitude of factors to ensure their journey is enjoyable and stress-free. Among these considerations are the destination’s attractions, cultural experiences, accommodation options, and local cuisine. However, security remains one of the paramount concerns for travellers. Security greatly influences travel decisions.

Lagos, Nigeria, and Cairo, Egypt have been named among the top 10 riskiest places for tourists globally in Forbes Advisor’s 2024 rankings. The new study reveals that Lagos has a risk score of 91.54, while Cairo’s risk score stands at 83.44.

Cities in Venezuela, Pakistan, and Myanmar were also identified as some of the most dangerous destinations.

The study compared 60 international cities across seven risk categories—crime, personal security, health, infrastructure, natural disasters, and digital security—to create a comprehensive travel safety rating.

Scores out of 100 were then calculated to reflect the overall risk to travellers visiting each city. Venezuelan capital, Caracas, posed the most severe risk for travellers, receiving a full 100 score for danger, the highest on the list.
