L3Harris has secured a $90-million contract continuation from the US Space Force to modernize the Advanced Tracking and Launch Analysis System (ATLAS).

The ATLAS modernization aims to enhance the US Space Force’s capability to detect and respond to emerging anti-satellite threats, building on a previous agreement signed in 2022.

Under the recent contract, L3Harris will develop, integrate, and deliver a suite of astrometric tools to provide key space command and control capabilities.

The work will enhance ATLAS capacity by increasing speed, accuracy, and relevancy in tracking satellites and space debris.

“Our work on the ATLAS program will enhance space operations and will help prevent adversaries from disrupting, degrading and destroying US space capabilities,” said Ed Zoiss, President of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris.

The ATLAS development is part of US Space Domain Awareness efforts to detect, track, and identify objects in orbit while evaluating potential threats.

It also integrates intelligence, operational data, and system readiness assessments to support decision-making and response planning.

L3Harris’ Space Technologies

L3Harris has won multiple contracts to support US space domain awareness and control efforts, providing technologies to protect assets and maintain operational capabilities.

In 2023, the US Space Force awarded $29 million to L3Harris to develop a sensor payload for a satellite-based missile warning and tracking system in medium-Earth orbit.

In 2022, the company introduced a new infrared technology designed to capture high-resolution imagery and gather battlefield intelligence from space.

Operating at an altitude of 22,000 miles (35,405 kilometers), the system enhances the ability to detect and monitor potential missile launches.
