Russia is increasingly prioritizing Africa as a key region for expanding its global influence, according to Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the Russian State Duma – the country’s lower house of assembly. Volodin made this statement during a recent meeting with Djibouti’s National Assembly Chairman, Dileita Mohamed Dileita, emphasizing that Moscow’s deepening ties with African nations are rooted in values of friendship, non-interference, and mutually beneficial collaboration. Russia’s prioritization of Africa is evident in its recent relations with the continent, including the multitude of energy deals the state-owned energy company Rosatom has inked with countries like Congo, Guinea, and Algeria within the past year. Moscow also recently added Nigeria, Tunisia, and Ethiopia to its list of currency trading partners, thereby strengthening its collaboration with these countries. These initiatives underscore Moscow’s commitment to improving bilateral relations and enhancing systemic cooperation with Africa while challenging Western dominance on the continent.
