The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has directed KPMG Advisory Services (BN 2145883), a business entity linked to KPMG Professional Services, to change its name within six weeks due to its similarity with KPMG Nigeria, escalating a long-running corporate identity battle over the globally recognised “KPMG” brand.

In a letter dated September 19, 2025, and signed by Chidinma Maureen Nvitte on behalf of the Registrar-General, the CAC stated that KPMG Advisory Services was registered in error in 2010 because its name resembles that of KPMG Nigeria. The Commission warned that failure to comply could trigger enforcement measures under Section 30(1) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020.

This development comes as KPMG Professional Services had earlier filed a Notice of Appeal at the Supreme Court, challenging the July 10, 2025 judgment of the Court of Appeal, which ruled in favour of KPMG Nigeria. However, under Nigerian law, filing an appeal does not automatically halt enforcement of the judgment, meaning KPMG Nigeria is legally entitled to assert exclusive control over the KPMG brand pending further orders.
